Building Information Modelling

Integrated collaboration through Building Information Modelling (BIM) is commonplace at Deerns. The BIM method makes the design process more transparent for clients and design parties; everyone immediately fully understands the consequences of design choices. This results in the realisation of a building that best suits the requirements and wishes of the client in an efficient manner.

We understand the necessity to keep developing the design process continuously. With tools like Revit, Deerns is able to calculate, communicate and visualise better to clients and our design partners, therefore improving the role of an active design participant. With our ‘one model’ philosophy our engineers strive to perfect the complete virtual model before construction, enhancing our engineering capabilities and integrating fluently our systems within the whole of the process.

The BIM method is a significant improvement in the integration between all parties working on the building, both during the design and the realisation of the project. Therefore, it provides clarity in the relationship between the architectural, the construction and the technical installation design. It provides real-time insight into the consequences of design changes and variations. These design changes can be visualised in detail and creates a better coordination between design parties. It results in a significant reduction of the failure costs during construction and it improves the planning of logistics processes during this phase.

Deerns is a leader in the application of BIM in the installation sector and carries out dozens of projects in accordance with the BIM method for commercial, health care, laboratory and data centre projects. Some examples are:

1.    Hilton Amsterdam: commercial
2.    Alkmaar Medical Centre (MCA): health care
3.    Ministry of Justice and Internal Affairs: commercial
4.    Shopping centre ‘t Loon: commercial
5.    Schiphol (several projects): airports
6.    The Netherlands Cancer Research Institute (NKI): health care
7.    Bosbadhal sports hall: commercial
8.    Noorderpoort College Stadkanaal: education
9.    Matrix VI Amsterdam
